Summary
Under the supervision of the FSC Program Manager or Senior Manager, the incumbent (Child Care Attendant) will perform child care duties during the general operating hours of the center or as otherwise directed. completions, scheduling assessments, referrals and linkages, record keeping, and other related work as required.

Essential Functions
  • Provides a clean, safe and fun child care environment.
  • Checks infants and children in and out while providing basic child care.
  •  Ensures safe play conditions and follows established security procedures.
  • Observes specific parent directions for feeding, nap times, and special needs.
  • Orients parents in regard to policies and procedures of child care center and maintains positive rapport with all parents and patrons.
  • Develops and implements activities for the children and attentively watches and attends to the children.
  • Administers first aid to children when injured, completes detailed accident reports, and promptly communicates with parents, supervisor, and Senior Manager.                                                                               
  • Handles complaints and comments and refers comments to proper personnel.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities in compliance with child care licensing requirements; attends a minimum of 10 hours of training each year on workshops or classes on childhood development or child care guidelines/instructions.
  • Maintains clean environment; performs janitorial duties as required or assigned to include body fluid cleanup, sanitizing area, and light housekeeping.

Secondary Functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager. Overtime, holiday, or weekend work may be required.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • More than one year of child care experience and or child development certification/degree.
  • Knowledge of basic child care and feeding, as well as an understanding of infant and child development.
  • Strong public relations and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with children and be patient with them.
  • Ability to move and react quickly to a variety of circumstances.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet.
  • Valid California Driver's License and Car Insurance.
  • Ability to do concise documentation and effectively communicate in written and verbal form.
  • Experience working with homeless families and the ability to work with clients from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Attention to detail and punctuality are required, Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Neat and professional appearance.
  • TB test, CPR and First Aid certification required.


Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Environmental Conditions (Working Conditions)
This position is responsible to work in “client friendly” environments, in the community. This position will require extensive interaction with homeless individuals, individuals with severe physical and mental disabilities, and the possibility of individuals with infectious diseases. You may be exposed to aggressive/hostile clients. The incumbent must be ready to deal with traumas which may trigger personal trauma; must work in conjunction with other collaborative staff members; communicate with many sources including courts, Department of Children and Family Services, Law Enforcement, and other community agencies. There is some responsibility to work in noisy environments where adults are free to talk loudly and expressively. You must be able to work effectively and produce quality work under pressure. While driving to training’s or performing other duties there may be exposure to weather conditions prevalent at the time, noise, moving vehicles, high crime rate areas, odors, fumes, pollen etc.

Physical Requirements
The Incumbent typically spends time sitting, standing, typing, thinking, writing, walking, driving, carrying
(max. 50 lbs), listening, speaking.

Mental Requirements
The incumbent to be able to perform effectively under any and all of the following: unpredictable situations, crises, constant distractions, interruptions, uncontrollable changes in priorities/work schedules; be able to process information, think and conceptualize. You must be able to effectively deal with personal trauma that may be triggered.
